About Firl Firl Industries, Inc. and the Fond du Lac Tent & Awning Company have been in business for over 100 years. The plant is located at 321 W. Scott Street in Fond du Lac and supplies various canvas, vinyl, and metal products locally and worldwide. Firl produces industrial items for national and international customers while Tent & Awning serves mostly local and area customers. Fond du Lac Tent & Awning Company dates to 1898 when the plant was at Eighth and South Main Streets. In 1913, the firm was moved to a site on East Second Street and in 1920 to East McWilliams Street - the site of Canvas Products Company. The business moved in March of 1965 to its present location on West Scott Street. The President of Firl Industries is Martin Buser, third-generation owner of the family business. He proudly continues the legacy established by his grandfather, the late Arnold Firle, and later carried on by his father, the late John Buser. The business has 13 employees and during the summer months adds 3 to 5 workers to assist with the tent rental business. Firl Industries, Inc. manufactures a wide range of industrial curtains for manufacturing applications, along with durable industrial canvas products and custom contract sewing solutions. The Fond du Lac Tent & Awning division specializes in custom boat covers, camper covers, truck covers, tonneau covers, patio furniture covers, tarps, and repairs for camping tents and other canvas products. In addition, the company offers year-round rentals of tents, tables, and chairs for outdoor parties, sporting tournaments, weddings, and special events. A wide selection of flags - including U.S., Wisconsin, POW/MIA, and specialty flags - is also available for purchase. The Awning division manufactures all kinds of awnings, both canvas and synthetic; as well as porch curtains, and all types of canopies for homes, trailers and mobile homes. Still other products made in the plant are canvas log carriers, large custom canvas bags for carrying artwork and gym mats. The factory has about 10,000 square feet of work space, with additional square footage available in a separate building for metal work. A building at 341 West Scott Street was purchased in 1999 adding 3500 square feet and is used for storage of our rental tents, tables, chairs and vehicles.
